Mulheres da Terra

The Women of Earth film reflects the desire of a young woman, Mayara, from São Paulo to quilombola and rural communities across Brazil.

Rise Up & Care, the 501(c)(3) non-profit that oversees SCIP, partnered with the filmmakers of Women of Earth to produce the film. It went on to be screened at dozens of domestic and international film festivals.

The student team worked closely with the creative directors of the film in Brazil to help promote it in the United States. In 2021, with the help of Isadora and Mayara and a surprise appearance Zefa da Guia, one of the indigenous midwives central to the film, we hosted an international webinar about the beauty of midwifery titled Resisting with Affection: Certification Workshop for the Next Generation of Stewards of Earth.
